Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has voiced his disappointment and frustration regarding the Black Stars’ recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Okraku’s concerns were particularly heightened by the team’s shocking defeat at Baba Yara Stadium against Angola, which ended a remarkable 24-year unbeaten streak at home.
Since assuming leadership of the GFA in 2019, Okraku has been clear about his expectations for the team’s success and had previously expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ potential for a strong showing at the upcoming 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
However, following these recent setbacks, he has called for a collective effort to improve the state of football in Ghana. During a visit to the team’s camp on October 8, Okraku underscored the importance of the four-time African champions reclaiming their legendary fighting spirit.
“I hope this will be the last day I appear before all of you not only to appeal to your hearts but to your conscience. The indomitable fighting spirit of the Black Stars has to be resurrected,” he stated.
“The honeymoon period is over. It’s time to show aggression, it’s time to show desire, and it’s time to demonstrate the willingness to go the extra mile for Ghana,” he added.
The Black Stars are set to face Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday three on Thursday, October 10, before traveling to Libya for the return match on October 15.
