Senegal has won two games played in the AFCON 2023 by beating the Gambia 3-0 and Cameroon 3-1. The Lions of Teranga tops Group C followed by Guinea who has won one and drawn one in their two opening games.
Senegal will play against Guinea on Tuesday and a place to finish on top of the group is at stake. Aliou Cisse whose team has been probably the best in the tournament would love to keep their 100% winning record heading into the knockout phase.
Speaking to the press, the defending champions, Senegal’s head coach talked about the rivalry between the two countries and the need to beat Guinea.
“There is never a friend-friend match with Guinea. It’s a derby.
“We know the relations between Guinea and Senegal. There is always tension and fervour. But it remains all the same a football match. Both teams are qualified but it will be anything but a friendly match,” concluded Aliou Cisse.
Guinea has to avoid a defeat to avoid any calculations to progress to the Round 16 as Senegal has already qualified but whoever wins will top the group.
