Former Black Stars defender Tony Baffoe has urged Ghanaians to abandon discussions about a so-called favourable draw following the Black Stars’ placement in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana have been drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama, a group widely regarded as one of the most challenging at the final tournament. At the time of the draw, FIFA World Rankings placed England 4th, Croatia 10th, Panama 30th, with Ghana ranked 72nd.

Reacting to the draw in an interview with Citi Sports, Baffoe stressed that no World Cup group can be considered easy and insisted that Ghana’s attention must shift fully toward preparation rather than complaints.

“What is a favourable group? Can you tell me? This is a World Cup. When you go to a World Cup, you must be prepared to play against any opponent,” he said.

Baffoe reminded fans that Ghana are not newcomers on the global stage, emphasizing the country’s experience at the tournament.

“Ghana is not going to the World Cup for the first time. This is our fifth appearance, so we must prepare technically, tactically, management-wise, and prepare the players well to get the best out of the team. Go there with confidence,” he added.

The former defender also warned against repeating the mistakes that led to Ghana’s early exit at the previous World Cup, highlighting the importance of planning, discipline, and unity.

“It’s all about attention to detail. Preparation is very important, creating a strong team spirit in camp is key, and management must go the extra mile to prepare the boys with the right mentality. Until then, anything is possible.”

Ghana will begin their Group L campaign against Panama, with focus now firmly on building the right structure, mindset, and preparation ahead of football’s biggest stage.
