Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler has expressed optimism that Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey could make a return to action before the end of the season.
Lamptey has been sidelined with an ankle injury, which ruled him out of Ghana’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. The right-back also missed Brighton’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City, having previously been unavailable for the Fulham clash due to suspension.
Speaking ahead of Brighton’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Nottingham Forest, Hürzeler acknowledged that while Lamptey faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines, there is hope for a comeback before the campaign concludes.
“Tariq will be out for a longer time—he has an ankle injury,” Hürzeler said.
“I think there’s a chance that we will see him back before the end of the season. He is a good healer, and I have a big trust in my medical staff and in Tariq’s mindset to be back on the pitch as quickly as possible.”
“There’s a chance that he will be back in several weeks,” he added.
Despite Lamptey’s absence, Ghana secured back-to-back victories in the World Cup qualifiers, thrashing Chad 5-0 and defeating Madagascar 3-0 to strengthen their position in Group I.
