Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has spoken about the weak finances of Ghanaian clubs who go to Africa and wants government to strongly support clubs in order for them to do well in the continental CAF competitions whilst cryptically lashing out at the Ghana Football Association for the lack of headline sponsorship of the association’s biggest league.
Kotoko won the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League with three games to spare after drawing 1-1 at Obuasi Ashanti Gold on Thursday during a Week 29 outstanding match.
The Porcupine Warriors will thus represent Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League and Amponsah has already started talking about Africa.
“If the government of the day is able to devote 6 to 8 million for AFCON for the Black Stars to go and represent Ghana then wehy can’t the government help a team like Kotoko or Hearts with a 1 million support to go and lift high the flag of Ghana” the Kotoko CEO quizzed on Thursday in Obuasi.
The former Phar Rangers President also talked about the lack of headline sponsorship for the Ghanaian top flight league.
“What is prize money of winning the league, it is about 250 000 Ghana Cedis which about 30 000 dollars that cannot even be used to play one home match (in Africa) , so the prize money is not there, no sponsorship for the league” Nana Yaw lamented.
