Interim manager of Nigeria, Finidi George, has made it clear that the upcoming clash between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana is not just a friendly encounter.
The longstanding sporting rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana goes beyond the football pitch, permeating various aspects of life. Finidi emphasized that the match scheduled for March 22, 2024, is a renewal of this intense rivalry, rather than a conventional friendly game.
“In football, they call it a friendly match, but there’s really nothing friendly about it, especially when facing Ghana,” Finidi asserted.
The showdown between the two West African footballing giants will take place at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on Friday, March 22, 2024.
This game marks Finidi’s debut as Nigeria’s interim coach, while Otto Addo will commence his second stint as the Black Stars coach.
In terms of historical head-to-head encounters, Ghana holds the edge with 22 wins, compared to Nigeria’s 11 victories, with 20 matches ending in draws out of the 53 times both nations have met.
