Head coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of his team approaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola with caution and respect.
Addo cautioned against underestimating the Angolan team, noting the quality of their squad, which includes players competing in top European leagues like La Liga, the English Championship, and the Portuguese Primeira Liga. “The most important thing is that we don’t underrate our opponents. Angola has a very strong team—their players are in La Liga, in England’s Championship, in Portugal’s first division, and in France,” Addo told Peace FM.
He added, “They are strong, very strong. We have to be really wise not to underrate them. We must stick to our game, our style of play. But especially defensively, we need to be more compact to avoid conceding goals.”
Addo recently revealed his 23-man squad, who began their preparations with a training session at the Accra Sports Stadium. The team has since moved to Kumasi to continue their training ahead of the crucial encounter.
The Black Stars will take on Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by a match against Niger in Morocco on September 9. The top two teams from each group will earn a place in the prestigious tournament.
