Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has called on the Black Stars to work towards regaining their former status in the FIFA rankings, despite their dominant victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars delivered an emphatic performance at the Accra Sports Stadium, thrashing Chad 5-0. They then traveled to Morocco, where they continued their fine form with a convincing 3-0 win over Madagascar, securing back-to-back clean sheets.
However, Boamah expressed concern over Ghana’s current FIFA ranking of 77th, stating that it does not reflect the team’s potential or past achievements.
“The Black Stars are ranked 77th on the FIFA ranking, and that is not where we are supposed to be,” he said on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday.
“If you know where we as a country want our national team to be, we want our national team to be at the levels that took us to the last eight in 2010. That is where we want our national team to be.”
Ghana will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in September with crucial fixtures against Chad and Mali before wrapping up against the Central African Republic and Comoros as they push for a fifth World Cup appearance.
