Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly nearing the end of his spell with Villarreal CF after the Spanish club decided not to extend his contract beyond this season.
Partey joined Villarreal in 2025 after leaving Arsenal at the expiration of his contract. The former Atlético Madrid midfielder signed a one-year agreement with an option for an extra season.
However, the experienced midfielder has struggled to secure a regular place in the starting lineup due to recurring fitness concerns and minor injury setbacks throughout the campaign.
Although the 31-year-old has featured in 30 matches in all competitions, he has been unable to maintain a consistent role within the squad.
Reports indicate that Villarreal are not prepared to trigger the extension clause in his deal, meaning the Ghana international could become a free agent at the end of the season.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club future, Partey is still expected to remain an important figure for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The midfielder is widely tipped to be part of Ghana’s squad for the global tournament as the national team prepares for another appearance on football’s biggest stage.
