Kwesi Appiah believes Thomas Partey struggled for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup because he was not used properly by the technical team.
After his lacklustre performance at the World Cup, the superstar for Arsenal faced criticism.
The 28-year-old played in each of the three matches as Ghana, which finished last in Group H, advanced from the group stage with three points.
According to Appiah, who helped Ghana qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Partey is constrained at Black Stars by playing in offensive positions, unlike at Arsenal.
He continued by saying that the Ghanaian performs well for the Premier League team since they employ him as a defensive midfielder.
“I would like to use this World Cup. If you look at Arsenal, they use him more like a defensive midfielder, always he plays in front of the defenders,” he told Dan Kweku Yeboah TV.
“But here we use him as an offensive midfielder who operates on the right side. That means he is enclosed in a small area with the number 10 but at Arsenal, he can move all over the place,” he added.
The Black Stars are currently without a head coach but will regroup once again in March for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
