Torquay United AFC, have, announced the cature of Ghanaian defender Jacob Mensah in the ongoing winter transfer window.
The former Crystal Palace youngster Mensah arrives at Plainmoor after spending the first part of the season at The Gulls’ National League rivals Maidstone, in addition to playing for the likes of Ramsgate, Weymouth and League One side Morecambe previously.
Having already proven himself at this level, and amassed nearly senior 100 appearances at the age of just 22, the Gaffer is equally pleased to add another talented individual to his defensive roster for what is already looking to be a busy second-half of the 2022/23 campaign.
“Jacob is a 6’3” defender, and again, we didn’t want to be caught short of defenders at our Club. He’s quick, very athletic and I’m sure – like Nico [Lawrence] – he’ll show his prowess in the coming weeks.
“We felt at this moment in time, with Saturday & Tuesday games almost all through the rest of the season, with games to be cancelled if we keep going in the FA Trophy, we needed more recruits so that you’ve got a squad of players you can call upon, and also as I always say, competition is always very healthy at this stage.
“It was important to get a bigger squad. Players become available at this moment in time and we took the opportunity to enhance our squad.”
