Toulouse FC players paid a heartfelt tribute to Ghanaian midfielder Abu Francis ahead of their Ligue 1 clash against Angers SCO on Sunday.
Francis suffered a serious injury during the international break while representing the Black Stars against Japan, forcing him to undergo successful surgery and ruling him out for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old is expected to begin rehabilitation in the coming weeks, which also means he will miss the FIFA World Cup in North America next summer.
In a touching display of solidarity, Toulouse players held up Francis’ jersey prior to kick-off, sending a clear message of support to their sidelined teammate.
On the pitch, Yassin Belkhdim’s first-half strike proved decisive as Angers secured a 1–0 victory at the Stadium de Toulouse.
Francis joined Toulouse during the summer transfer window from Cercle Brugge and had quickly become a key player, making eight Ligue 1 appearances in the early stages of the season.
