Dutch-Ghanaian defender Tyrese Asante recorded his first assist of the season during Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 3-1 defeat to Beitar Jerusalem in a Ligat HaAl Championship Group clash on Monday evening.
The 23-year-old completed the full 90 minutes and made a significant contribution late in the game, delivering a clever pass to Osher Davida, who found the net from a tight angle in the 84th minute. The goal gave Maccabi a glimmer of hope after falling behind by two goals.
However, Beitar Jerusalem remained in control of the match. Mayron George broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, and Jean Marcelin added a second in the 66th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball from a corner. Though Maccabi pulled one back through Davida’s strike, Yarin Levi sealed the victory for Beitar in stoppage time with a brilliant curling shot into the top corner.
The win brings Beitar closer in the historical head-to-head record between the two sides. Maccabi still lead with 21 wins, Beitar now have 13, and 11 matches have ended in draws.
Maccabi Tel Aviv will aim to return to winning ways when they take on Hapoel Haifa on April 26.
