In the clash between the Ghana U23 team and their Algerian counterparts on Friday night, the Black Meteors put on an impressive performance. This was the first leg of the final qualification round to the CAF U23 AFCON.
Both teams exhibited great form in the first half, making it difficult to distinguish between them. However, the game remained goalless at halftime.
In the second half, both teams resumed play with a determination to score and secure a win. In the 78th minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty kick, but Ghana’s goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim made an exceptional save to keep the score level.
Just five minutes later, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored a fantastic goal from the centre circle, beating the Algerian goalkeeper with a powerful strike.
Unfortunately, the Black Meteors conceded a penalty kick in injury time, which the hosts converted to equalize. The game ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving both teams with everything to play for in the reverse fixture next week.
