UCL Week 3 on Tuesday: Check out how African players performed

Nigeria’s Raphael Onyedika was shown a striaght red card in Club Brugge’s 3-1 defeat at AC Milan in the 40th minute after referee Felix Zwayer had consulted VAR. Samu Chukueze replaced Leao in the 60th minute and assisted Tijani Reijnder’s second gaol which was AC Milan’s third.

Youngsters Wilfried Singo (Ivory Coast), Lamine Camara (Senegal) and Ben Seghir (Morocco) all started for AS Monaco in their 5-1 smashing of Red Star with Singo assisting Monaco’s first goal and also scoring an incredible goal from outside the
18-yard-box. Senegalese midfielder Krepin Diatta replaced Caio Henrique in the 77th minute.

Red Star had 7 Africans in their matchday squad with Djiga (Burkina Faso) Olayinka (Nigeria), Silas (DR Congo) and Ndiaye (Senegal) who started for the Serbian side. Cherif Ndiaye scored the consolation for Red Star in the 5-1 defeat in Monaco. Dalcio (Guinea-Bissau) and Guelor kanga (Gabon) were used substitutes while Angolan star, Milson was an unused substitute for Red Star Belgrade.

Thomas Partey started and completed the entire 90 minutes for Arsenal in the 1-0 victory over Shaktar Donetsk. Burkinabe international Lassina Traore replced Euginaldo with four minutes from time. Tunisian left-back Alaa Ghram was not used from the bench by Shaktar Donetsk.

There was no African in the matchday squads of Aston villa and Bologna. The English club won 2-0 against the Italians.

Ghanaian forward Sharani Zuberu enjoyed the whole 90 mins for Slovan Bratislava in the 2-0 loss to Girona in Spain. Idjessi Metsoko of Togo played 7 minutes from the bench for Slovan.

Malian striker El Bilal Toure was the only African in the matchday squads of Juventus and Stuttgart and he came on from the bench to score a nice goal for the Germans to secure an incredible 1-0 win over the Old Ladies of Italian football.

Moroccan International Achraf Hakimi scored the equaliser for PSG in the 55th minute against PSV in Paris. Moroccan winger Saibari provided the assist for Noah Lang to put the Dutch side ahead in the first half. Young Moroccan forward Couhaib Driouech enjoyed 26 minutes while Adamo Nagalo of Burkina Faso was an unused substitute.

Ramy Bensebaini (Algeria) and Serhou Guirassy (Guinea) each played 90 mins in Dortmund’s 5-2 embarrasing defeat in Madrid against Real Madrid with the Guinean providing a beautiful assist for Malen to open the scoring. 23-year-old Moroccan midfielder Azhil Ayman was not used from the bench by Dortmund.

Geny Catamo from Mozambique played 90 minutes for Sporting Lisbon in the 2-0 win at Sturm Graz. 18-year-old Malian midfielder Malick Yalcouye played the full 90 minutes for Sturm Graz. 19-year-old Malian forward Amady Camara was not used from the bench by the Austrian champions.
