Ghanaian-born US defender Prince Amponsah has joined Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps ahead of the 2026 MLS season.
The 22-year-old inked a deal through to the end of the 2026 after leaving hometown club New York City FC.
Amponsah will feature for Vancouver Whitecaps II in the MLS Next Pro with hopes of earning a move to the senior team.
Before arriving in Vancouver, Amponsah enjoyed an outstanding season with New York City FC in the MLS Next Pro, after making 22 appearances for the club with a 90% successful pass completion.
The towering centre-back started his career at New York City Academy before a standout collegiate career at Wake Forest, where he served as team captain and earned 2024 ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player, 2024 Coaches Second-Team All-South Region honours, 2022 ACC All-Tournament Team, and 2022 All-ACC Third-Team.
He finished his collegiate career ranked seventh in program history in both appearances (92) and starts (84).
He returned to New York last year to sign his first MLS deal but could not get the opportunity to feature in the first team.
