In the Czech top flight, Ghanaian player Patrick Kpozo had an unfortunate moment when he scored an own goal in FC Banik Ostrava’s 3-1 defeat to FC Slovan Liberec on Sunday.
Early in the game, Banik Ostrava showed some promise in their attacking efforts. In the ninth minute, Ewerton delivered an interesting direct kick into the Liberec penalty area, and both Eneo Bitri and Patrick Kpozo were ready to take a shot. However, their attempts were thwarted by the home team’s defense.
Tragedy struck in the 23rd minute when a dangerous cross was delivered in front of Banik’s goal. In an attempt to clear the ball to safety, Patrik Kpozo unintentionally headed it into his own net, giving Liberec a 1-0 lead.
The situation worsened for Banik in the 41st minute as they lost possession in their own half, leading to a precise cross from Fukal and Lukas Cerv’s header, extending Liberec’s lead to 2-0.
Banik managed to pull one back with a consolation goal scored by Daniel Tetour from the penalty spot.
However, Liberec quickly restored their two-goal advantage. Jan Mikula’s throw-in was received by Mohamed Doumbia, who skillfully found the back of the net with an elusive shot, making it 3-1 in favor of the home team.
