Ghana forward Bernard Tekpetey was subjected to racial abuse from Levski Sofia supporters during and after Ludogorets’ victory in the Bulgarian Super Cup at the Vasil Levski National Stadium.

The winger scored the decisive goal to secure the trophy on Tuesday, but celebrations were overshadowed by disturbing incidents targeting the Ghana international.

Ludogorets released a strong statement condemning what the club described as “unacceptable” behaviour from sections of the crowd and online offenders.

According to the club, Tekpetey endured monkey chants and racial insults from Levski supporters during the match.

The club also expressed concern that some children were reportedly involved in the abuse, highlighting the worrying spread of discriminatory behaviour.

The situation worsened after the final whistle, with Tekpetey receiving death threats and offensive messages on his personal social media accounts.

Ludogorets confirmed that official complaints have been submitted to the police and the prosecutor’s office regarding the threats directed at the player.

“Ludogorets will not stop fighting against racism,” the club said, noting that the incident follows a similar attack on former player Antoine Baroan last year. The club reaffirmed its full support for Tekpetey, insisting he would not face the ordeal alone.

Ludogorets have also proposed discussions among Bulgarian clubs to tackle recurring racism, urging stronger action to protect players and uphold football’s values.
