Hearts of Oak officially welcomed Dutch coach Martin Koopman to their technical team and playing squad on Thursday afternoon, introducing him as their new head coach.
The 67-year-old arrived in Ghana on Wednesday to assume his new role, having been recommended by fellow Dutchman and Hearts of Oak’s technical director, Rene Hiddink.
As the club’s pre-season activities are in full swing, Koopman’s appointment has become a focal point of discussion, injecting a fresh wave of excitement and anticipation.
Koopman boasts an accomplished background, including a successful career as a defender with renowned Dutch clubs such as Go Ahead Eagles, FC Twente, and Cambuur Leeuwarden. Impressively, he also showcased his versatility by excelling as a midfielder.
Transitioning into coaching, Koopman has amassed valuable experience over the years. He has coached national teams like Maldives and Aruba, as well as clubs such as Al-Orouba and RKC Waalwijk.
Previously, Koopman served as a coach for Al-Nasr SC in the UAE before taking on the role of assistant coach at Sparta Rotterdam in his home country.
With the new season set to kick off on September 15, Hearts of Oak’s management is keen on finalizing their coaching staff by the end of August. The Phobians are scheduled for a challenging opening match against Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
