After making the long journey down from Scotland, Exeter City’s new centre-back Johnly Yfeko has given his first interview in red and wite.
Before joining his new teammates on their pre-season Cornish camp, the towering defender sat down to discuss his excitement after sealing a season-long loan move from Rangers.
This will be the 21-year-old’s first experience of EFL football, however he’s already had experience playing at three clubs.
The London-born centre-back began his career in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy before moving into the midlands with Leicester.
He continued his journey up north by joining Rangers in 2022, mainly featuring for the Glasgow club’s B team but making one start in the Scottish League Cup – a win at Ibrox against Greenock Morton last August.
“It feels amazing; it’s been going on for a couple of weeks and I’m happy to get it over the line.”
“I first heard about the interest at the start of the window – my agent called me and he said, ‘There’s a good coach who’s interested in you at a good club down south and we think you should have a look.” said Yfeko in his first interview with the club’s website.
“I just drove down straight away to see what I was getting myself into!”
Although he is only 21, Johnly’s already had experience playing at Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester before making a move north of the border. Predominately playing for Rangers’ B side in local Scottish leagues, the centre-back did make one appearance in front of the packed Ibrox crowd.
“It was an amazing experience, something that you always dream about as a little boy, playing for such a big club in a historic stadium.
“For me to be able to mark that off was absolutely brilliant for me and my family.”
Throwing more light on his attributes, Johnly said: ”I’m physical, and also good and comfortable on the ball. My best attribute may be my passing and covering long distances, I feel like my composure on the ball gives confidence to any team,”
He concluded saying: “My teammates will be able to trust me and so will the manager.”
