Joseph Narbi, the gifted winger, bubbled with joy as he clinched the Most Valuable Player award following Ghana’s triumph over Ivory Coast in the WAFU Zone B U17 Africa Cup of Nations opener.
Narbi’s two-goal haul propelled the Black Starlets to a commanding 5-1 victory over their rivals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon.
Goals from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, Mark Kagawa Mensah, and Joseph Narbi’s brace ensured a resounding triumph for the Black Starlets on Wednesday.
Narbi initiated the scoring with a stunning half-volley and swiftly added another before halftime.
“I am very happy to win this award. I am also happy that out of 22 players, I am the one who was selected for the best player award. I am grateful to the fans and my coaches for this award”
“The first half didn’t go as expected but the good thing is that we had an early goal. During the halftime break, the coach told us what to do, we did exactly that and we won the game” he said.
Next up, the Black Starlets will face Benin in their second encounter of the competition.
Ghana U17 is determined to secure qualification to the U17 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in seven years, with their last appearance dating back to 2017.
