Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston didn’t mince words as he criticized the Black Stars for their defensive lapses in conceding two easy goals against the Central African Republic.
In the intense matchday four showdown of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium, Jordan Ayew initially put Ghana in the lead with a well-taken penalty in the 4th minute.
However, Louis Mofouta’s brace flipped the script, leaving Central African Republic ahead 2-1 at halftime.
Expressing his disappointment with the team’s performance, Kingston, the former coach of the Black Satellites, singled out the defense for scrutiny, labeling the conceded goals as “cheap.”
“My disappointment lies with our two centre-backs,” he remarked on GTV Sports Plus. “If we lose the ball, we should stay compact, but they kept opening up, leading to the two goals. We conceded two cheap goals, and the second one was worse. We lost the ball in a wide area, which resulted in a goal. I was expecting Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana to press, but they failed to do so,” he added.
Despite the defensive setbacks, the Black Stars displayed resilience in the second half, ultimately clinching a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are slated to resume their qualifying campaign in October 2025 with a challenging trip to face Central African Republic in the matchday five fixtures.
