“We don’t have any good striker upfront to bang in goals” – Mohammed Alhassan predicts ‘difficult’ 2023 AFCON campaign for Black Stars

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Mohammed Alhassan, expressed concerns about the Black Stars’ chances at the upcoming 2023 AFCON due to a lack of competent strikers in the team.

Despite being considered a favorite to win the tournament scheduled to commence in Ivory Coast on January 13, 2024, Alhassan believes Ghana may face a tough campaign due to the absence of prolific goal scorers in the squad.

He emphasized the importance of infusing some local players into the Black Stars and highlighted the contributions of home-based players who are performing well and should be given a chance in the national team.

“It’s about time the technical team infuse some local players in the Black Stars. Truth be told, some home-based players are good and performing and needs to be involved in the team”, he said as scribed by FootballGhana

Alhassan also noted that the team lacks strong strikers to consistently score goals, making their prospects for the AFCON challenging. He further mentioned that key players like Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus were missing in recent matches against Mexico and the USA, making their performance uncertain due to injuries.

“We don’t have any good striker upfront to bang in goals, so it will be difficult for Ghana at the AFCON. Partey and Kudus are the fulcrum of the team but they were missing against Mexico and USA and you don’t expect Partey to give his all because of injuries”, he added.
