Bechem United coach Bismark Kobby-Mensah expressed his frustration with the assistant referee, Mikaal-il Fauzan’s performance in their 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
Kobby-Mensah’s disappointment stemmed from a disallowed goal in the intense game at the Baba Yara Stadium. Augustine Okrah, a star player for Bechem United, made a powerful run and volleyed what could have been the match-winning goal.
However, referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe disallowed the goal after a controversial consultation with assistant Mikaal-il Fauzan, citing a handball by Okrah before scoring.
Kobby-Mensah believed his team was unjustly denied a clear goal, and he felt that this decision cost them a valuable three points. He expressed his disappointment with the assistant referee, stating, “I am a bit disappointed because we have been denied a precious three points. I am not here to talk about the referee, but the assistant referee was bad. We were denied a precious goal. It was a big error from the assistant. We have been denied three points.”
The match ended with Peter Acquah scoring his debut goal for the Porcupine Warriors, and Augustine Okrah equalized for the visitors. Asante Kotoko remained in 7th place on the table with 10 points, while Bechem United sat in 12th place with eight points.
