“We have lost the public already” – Sannie Daara warns GFA boss Kurt Okraku against ignoring public concerns

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Deputy General Secretary Ibrahim Sannie Daara has criticised Kurt Okraku’s public response to Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah amid the ongoing debate over the state of Ghana football.

Speaking on TV3, Sannie Daara said the GFA president should have handled the criticism differently and questioned whether his executives are giving him enough support.

“I was not happy when I saw my brother openly confronting the MP, a lawmaker of Ghana, in the way he did. I was asking myself, where are his executives? Is it that they are not happy with him? Is it that the man is driving alone?” he said.

The disagreement started after Baffour Awuah criticised the GFA’s administration and called for major reforms, accusing the football body of being controlled by a “cabal”.

Okraku responded by questioning the MP’s contribution to football development and asked how many pitches he had built for his Manhyia South constituency. The lawmaker replied that his constituency has three AstroTurf pitches and insisted the focus should be on fixing the broader challenges affecting Ghana football.

Sannie Daara urged Okraku and the GFA leadership to listen to criticism and take decisive steps to restore confidence in the football system.

“Kurt Okraku is to listen to himself. Number one, smell the mood in the room. Number two, take decisive decisions based on that.”

He added that continued disregard for public concerns could further damage the relationship between the GFA and football supporters.

“We have lost the public already,” Sannie Daara warned.

His comments come after the Black Stars suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia, results that have intensified calls for reforms in Ghana football.
