Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has voiced his support for the exclusion of Andre Ayew from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.
Gyan emphasized the need for the team to evolve, despite Ayew’s significant contributions over the years.
Ayew’s omission, announced by head coach Otto Addo, has ignited diverse reactions among fans and pundits, with Gyan echoing the coach’s decision to prioritize the team’s progression.
“For me, Andre has done so much for Ghana. He started way back in 2007 and he has been consistent in the national team. He is the most capped player,” Gyan told Joy Sports.
“The coach has made his decision. Personally, I played with Andre and he has done everything for Ghana but this is the situation whereby we have to move on,” Gyan stated.
Despite being left out, Ayew had a commendable season in France, underlining his continued prowess on the field.
