The Chairperson of the Ghana Women’s Premier League Management Committee Madam Hillary Maame Adwoa Boateng has bemoaned that the league needs a Headline Sponsor in order to help the clubs to survive.
Speaking exclusively in an interview with Angel TV’S Esther Abankwa on Abomu Sports over the weekend, Madam Hillary Boateng disclosed that the clubs are currently struggling to cope due to the financial burdens that comes along with its administration .
“Before anything, let me state on authority that club administrators of these female teams are are doing well. Some of these owners, aside the daily expenses and the accommodation they provide, pay school fees of these girls.
These clubs are supposed to be run professionally, but because they are over burdened already, they are unable to do that.
But the issue now is that, the Clubs are at a level where they are struggling to survive. As such, they are unable to pay the girls.
So we need Headline Sponsor to help these clubs to help the clubs ease off their financial issues,”she said.
On FIFA Covid funds:
The Chairperson of the Ghana Women’s Premier League Management Committee Madam Hillary Boateng further revealed that most of the teams used the FIFA Covid funds they received from the Ghana Football Association to acquire buses to ease their transportation woes.
“To be fair, a lot of the clubs bought buses with the funds they received from FIFA through the GFA, that’s the $10,000. Because of that, right now, most of the clubs have means of transportation.
At least I know about eight teams that used the money for that purpose,” she disclosed.
The Ghana Women’s Premier League for the 2021/2022 season which ended last month saw Ampem Darkoa Ladies crowned Champions after beating Hasaacas Ladies on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.
