Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed the club’s impressive goal-scoring record this season to a collective team approach rather than relying on individual brilliance.
The Yellow and Mauves have been one of the most effective attacking sides in the Ghana Premier League, scoring 12 goals in their opening six matches, with seven different players contributing to their tally.
Kingsley Braye currently leads the club’s scoring chart with four goals, while Kelvin Nkrumah and Emmanuel Annor have added two goals each. Four other players have also found the back of the net once this campaign.
Tanko believes the spread of goals reflects the team’s philosophy of involving players from every department, from defence through midfield to attack.
“No, I mean, it’s not only the attackers. We play as a team. As you know, we always start from the back and involve the midfielders,” he said.
“So, definitely, it’s easier for the strikers to score because they are getting very good passes from our midfielders and very good crosses. Like I said, we are training, and it’s getting better. We hope it stays that way.”
Medeama will look to continue their strong attacking form when they travel to face FC Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday, October 18.
Tanko’s side currently sit top of the Ghana Premier League table with 14 points after recording four wins and two draws from six matches, making them the only unbeaten team in the competition.
Samartex, meanwhile, occupy third position with 11 points and will be aiming to maintain their impressive home form against the league leaders.
With several players capable of contributing goals, Medeama’s attacking balance could be a key factor in what is expected to be another closely contested fixture. Four of the last eight league meetings between the two sides have ended in draws.
