Ghana international Joseph Paintsil has assured Genk fans the team will be ‘back stronger’ after missing out on the Belgian Jupiler Pro League title this season.
Genk were close to winning the league title after taking a late lead in the game against Royals Antwerp in the final-day fixture at home on Sunday afternoon.
However, Antwerp scored in added time to draw the game level and push Genk to second while moving up to the top of the playoff table.
Having missed out on the league title, Paintsil thanked the fans while promising them of a better charge next season.
“Thank you, genkies, for your support throughout the season. Your cheers and encouragement have been our driving force. We couldn’t grab the big prize and it hurts a lot but we also couldn’t have gotten this close without you,” he wrote in social media post.
“We shall be back stronger next season.”
The Ghanaian netted 17 goals for the club in the league while also registering 11 assists.
