Asante Kotoko’s 1-1 draw with Medeama SC on Sunday, January 5, 2025, has left head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum disappointed, as he felt his side deserved all three points.
Kwame Opoku gave Kotoko the lead in the 44th minute, putting them in a commanding position. With league leaders Heart of Lions suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Bechem United, Kotoko had a golden opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.
However, Kamaradini Mamudu’s equalizer in the 61st minute denied Kotoko a crucial win, forcing them to settle for a single point. The result leaves Kotoko two points adrift of the summit, with the team currently sitting sixth on the league table.
Addressing the media in the post-match press conference, Ogum expressed frustration over his team’s inability to convert their chances.
“I think we played well. We had more clear goal-scoring opportunities, we contained them in the first half, and in the second half, we caught them on the counter a few times. If you ask me, we had the better chances to win. The result doesn’t reflect the game; we should have won,” Ogum lamented.
With 28 points from 16 games, Kotoko remain in the hunt for the title. They will have the opportunity to bounce back when they host newly-promoted Vision FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
