In a stellar performance against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko’s midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, has sparked discussions among Ghanaian football fans and drawn attention for a potential Black Stars inclusion in the 2023 AFCON squad.
Lamptey played a pivotal role in Kotoko’s comeback victory at the Baba Yara Stadium during GPL match-day 14, where they triumphed 3-2 after initially trailing. Steven Mukwala contributed a brace, and Isaac Oppong added another, securing the win despite consolation goals from Linda Mtange and Martin Karikari for Hearts of Oak.
In an interview on Kotoko’s official YouTube channel, Lamptey expressed the team’s determination to win for the fans. While pleased with the victory, he acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly in converting chances. Lamptey credited his teammates for following instructions and vowed to address their mistakes.
“We were determined to win the game for the fans. As players, we were a bit disappointed because we were unable to take our chances but as professional players we will do our best to correct our mistakes. I will also credit my teammates for adhering to instructions” he said.
Asante Kotoko, currently in 7th position with 22 points, will face Great Olympics in their upcoming match as they continue their Ghana Premier League campaign.
