“We were hurt after losing the Democracy Cup to Asante Kotoko” – Hearts of Oak defender Awuah Mensah

Hearts of Oak new recruit Michael Awuah Mensah has revealed his outfit disappointment after failing to lift the Democracy Cup against sworn rivals Asante Kotoko.

Mensah, who recently joined the Phobians was in action when his outfit succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the inaugural Cup competition last week. The game was held to celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

The recent defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium marks the Phobians third consecutive loss to the Porcupine Warriors.

Speaking in an interview with Silver FM, the former Nations FC marksman disclosed his outfit wanted to lift the trophy to appease the fans following a disappointing performance last season that saw the club finish 14th on the Ghana Premier League table.

“We were hurt after falling short to Kotoko in the Democracy Cup. We wanted to lift the trophy to appease our fans after a disappointing season”

Meanwhile, the defender has set sights on securing the Ghana Premier League title in the upcoming campaign.

“I will urge the fans not to lose hope in the team. The fans should exercise patience. I believe the leadership of the club are working around the clock to make things better”

“No one should be surprise if Hearts of Oak wins the league. We can win the league. Hearts of Oak is a big club so it’s no news if we win the league” he said.

The defender recently secured a move to Hearts of Oak from Nations FC following an impressive performance last term.

He penned a three-year deal with the Accra-based club and is expected to play a huge role for the team next season.
