Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah insists the team’s preparations for the highly anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak remain firmly on course, despite a difficult week that has brought major changes at the club.
The Porcupine Warriors will host their eternal rivals on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 22 encounter of the Ghana Premier League, with kickoff scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
Kotoko head into the derby on the back of a disappointing MTN FA Cup exit, having fallen to Aduana FC on penalties in the Round of 16. The defeat led to the resignation of head coach Karim Zito, bringing his spell at the club to an abrupt end.
In response, the club has acted swiftly, placing Prince Yaw Owusu in charge on an interim basis, assisted by Hamza Obeng, as Kotoko look to stabilize ahead of the season’s decisive phase.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Amoah rejected claims of unrest within the squad and dismissed suggestions that players played any role in Zito’s departure. He emphasized that the focus has now shifted entirely to Sunday’s showdown, which the team sees as a chance to respond positively on the pitch.
According to the forward, the Super Clash presents an immediate opportunity for Kotoko to turn the page and reassert themselves, as they look to rally supporters and restore momentum in the league.
