Nations FC head coach Stephen Frimpong Manso has revealed that their MTN FA Cup triumph was achieved to compensate loyal supporters following the club’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League.
The coach made this statement after his side defeated Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties in a tightly contested final, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Nations FC opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Joseph Effah, but their lead was short-lived as Dreams FC restored parity through Abdul Razak Salifu, forcing the match into a penalty shootout after both sides failed to find a winner in normal time.
Frimpong Manso’s side held their nerve in the shootout to secure a 5-4 victory, sparking jubilant celebrations as they lifted the FA Cup trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
Speaking after the triumph, the coach emphasized that the victory was particularly important given the club’s difficult season, explaining that it served as a way to reward fans and management for their unwavering support despite relegation from the top flight.
He noted that the players were highly motivated to deliver the trophy, stressing that failure would have made the situation more painful for the club and its supporters.
Following their FA Cup success, Nations FC will now prepare for their maiden appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, marking a new chapter in the club’s continental journey.
