Heart of Lions Communications Director Eric Eli Adzie has admitted that the Kpando-based club has learned “bitter lessons” this season but insists they remain determined to challenge for the Ghana Premier League title, despite a daunting 16-point gap to leaders Medeama SC.
The Lions currently sit seventh on the table with 27 points from 20 matches, facing a challenging uphill battle to catch the league leaders. Nevertheless, Adzie is confident that the unpredictability of football still leaves room for a remarkable turnaround.
“The Ghana Premier League has taught us some bitter lessons these past few weeks, but we are not ruling ourselves out of contention,” Adzie told Citi Sports. “The moment we step onto the pitch in this tournament, we should be playing for the ultimate prize.”
Adzie highlighted football’s inherent uncertainty as a key reason for optimism. “Even though Medeama are currently runaway leaders, anything can happen in football. With the number of matches left, clubs can falter, stumble, or be overtaken. So we are not out of the title race yet.”
The club faces an immediate test of resolve as they prepare to host second-placed Asante Kotoko at the Kpando Sports Stadium on January 31. With just one win in their last ten league matches, Heart of Lions must turn lessons learned into action if they are to revive their campaign and prove their title ambitions are more than mere words.
