Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has launched a scathing response to journalists questioning his team’s display following their narrow 1-0 win over Medeama in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The Phobians returned to the Accra Sports Stadium for the first time in over six months and ended a four-game winless run thanks to a brilliant first-half strike from midfielder Raphael Amponsah. The victory keeps Hearts within six points of the league leaders.
However, the performance drew criticism from sections of the fanbase and media, who were unimpressed with the team’s overall display despite the result. The win followed a disappointing midweek loss to Nations FC, where Razak Simpson’s goal separated the two sides.
When asked about his satisfaction with the team’s performance, an irked Ouattara fired back:
“Sometimes, I ask myself, what do you [journalists] want? When we win, you say the performance is bad. When we play well and lose, then you criticise us. Tell me the truth—what do you really want?”
“For me, I want the three points. If I get the three points, all this commentary is not my concern. The league table is not about performance—we want results,” he added.
Ouattara is no stranger to media tension. He previously described questions after his team’s defeat to Kotoko in December as “unreasonable lottery questions.” He was also charged by the Ghana Football Association for allegedly skipping the post-match press conference after their game against Dreams FC.
Sunday’s appearance marked his first post-match media session since that incident, having missed last week’s briefing due to medical treatment.
Hearts of Oak will face Vision FC next weekend as they aim to build on their Medeama victory and climb further up the league standings.
