Ghana’s search for the next generation of attacking talent should lead the Black Stars to Croatia, where 21-year-old forward Daniel Adu-Adjei is beginning to make a strong case for serious international consideration.

With some of Ghana’s established players entering the later stages of their careers, struggling for consistent form or failing to convince at the highest level, the national team needs to start investing in fresh attacking options.

Adu-Adjei is exactly the kind of young forward Ghana should be monitoring closely.

Born in England to Ghanaian heritage, Adu-Adjei has developed through the academies of Brentford, Fulham and Bournemouth before making the move to Croatian side Rijeka in 2025.

His progress is particularly interesting because he is still only 21 and has already experienced senior professional football in England before moving abroad.

More importantly, his current form suggests that he is beginning to find his feet at a higher level.

Adu-Adjei’s development is not something that has suddenly appeared on the radar.

Sportsworldghana.com has been talking about Daniel Adu-Adjei for the past three to four years, highlighting his potential and following his progress long before his name began attracting wider attention.

That long-term interest now looks increasingly justified.

The youngster has shown an ability to play as a forward with pace, movement and an eye for goal, qualities that could be extremely valuable to a Ghana side that has often struggled to find consistency in the final third.

The Black Stars cannot afford to wait until a young Ghanaian-born talent becomes a household name in Europe before making contact.

Ghana needs to identify players early, monitor their development and create a pathway into the senior national team.

Adu-Adjei’s case is particularly compelling because he was born in England but has Ghanaian heritage, giving him a clear connection to the country.

His football development has largely taken place in England, but his decision regarding international football remains something Ghana should be paying close attention to.

At this stage of his career, the priority should not necessarily be to throw him straight into a major competitive match.

Instead, the Black Stars technical team should establish contact with him, monitor him closely and, where appropriate, invite him into the national-team environment.

That would allow Carlos Queiroz and his technical team to assess him personally rather than relying solely on club statistics or highlight videos.

Ghana needs competition for places.

The Black Stars have talented attackers, but international football demands constant renewal. Players who have served the national team for years cannot be expected to remain the automatic solution forever.

Form changes. Age catches up. Injuries happen. New talents emerge.

That is why Adu-Adjei deserves attention.

He represents the type of young player Ghana should be building around for the future rather than waiting until the opportunity becomes more difficult.

His career also shows a willingness to challenge himself. After coming through the Bournemouth system and spending time on loan at Poole Town, Leyton Orient and Carlisle United, he eventually made a permanent move to Rijeka in Croatia.

That move has given him an opportunity to experience football outside England and test himself in European competition.

And that is another reason why the Black Stars should be watching.

Ghana’s national team needs players who can bring different qualities and experiences into the squad. Adu-Adjei’s development in the English system, combined with his experience in Croatian football, could give him a useful profile as he continues to mature.

The question is therefore no longer simply whether Daniel Adu-Adjei is talented.

The bigger question is whether Ghana is prepared to act early enough.

If his development continues at its current pace, his market value and international profile could rise significantly. Once that happens, convincing him to commit his international future could become considerably more complicated.

Ghana should therefore be proactive.

Sportsworldghana.com has been speaking about Daniel Adu-Adjei for three to four years now. The time has come for the Black Stars to take a much closer look at the young forward.

For a national team going through a period of transition, bringing promising young players into the system early is not a luxury.

It is part of proper squad planning.

Daniel Adu-Adjei may not yet be the finished product, but that should not be the reason to ignore him.

The Black Stars need to know what he can become — and the best way to find out is to bring him into the environment, work with him and give him the opportunity to prove himself.
