Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has announced his starting lineup for the Black Stars’ final Group L match against Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, introducing three changes to the team that held England to a goalless draw.
Although Ghana has already secured qualification to the Round of 32, the encounter remains crucial for Croatia, who need at least a point to keep their hopes of progressing alive. The match will be played in Philadelphia.
One of the biggest highlights of the lineup is the inclusion of Derrick Luckassen, who will make his competitive debut for the Black Stars. The defender has been handed an immediate starting role following the injury to Jerome Opoku and will partner Jonas Adjetey in central defence. Marvin Senaya and Gideon Mensah complete the back four.
Benjamin Asare continues in goal after an impressive display against England, where he produced several key saves to help Ghana maintain their unbeaten record and keep a second consecutive clean sheet.
In midfield, Queiroz has opted to start Elisha Owusu in place of Caleb Yirenkyi. The decision is believed to be a precautionary measure, with Yirenkyi rested to avoid the risk of suspension ahead of the knockout stage due to yellow card accumulation. Owusu joins Thomas Partey and Kwasi Sibo in the middle of the park.
Kamaldeen Sulemana also returns to the starting eleven, replacing Inaki Williams. His pace and attacking threat will complement Antoine Semenyo, while captain Jordan Ayew leads the Black Stars’ attack.
Ghana heads into the match with four points after defeating Panama 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with England. The Black Stars have yet to concede a goal in the tournament, highlighting the team’s defensive organization under Queiroz.
With a place in the Round of 32 already confirmed, Ghana will be aiming to finish the group stage strongly and build momentum ahead of the knockout rounds.
