Madagascar was trailing leaders Comoro by two points in third position in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The minnows are working extremely hard to protect their slim hope of doing the unthinkable.

The Malagasy ended Central Africa Republic’s World Cup hopes by pulverizing them at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca on Wednesday afternoon.

Hugo Gambor in the 9th minute connected Oualengbe Yaloungou’s assist and gave the home team a 1-0 lead. Madagascar soon took control of the game and equalized via Rayan Raveloson in the 17th minute. The Young Boys Bern’s midfielder four minutes later put Madagascar into a 2-1 lead. Central Africa was trailing by a goal at half time with head coach Enza-Yamissi optimistic they were going to bounce back in the second half.

Radrianantenaine early in the second half extended Madagacra’s lead to 3-1. It was a case of no way back for CAR as they could not keep up with the pace of Corentin Martins’ men. Rafanometzntoz in the 89th minute rounded up the afternoon for Madagascar.

The 4-1 victory means that Madagascar now sits on top of the table with 10 points after playing a game more ahead of Comoros and Ghan who are on 9 points apiece.

In other games of the afternoon, Cameroon dissapointly drew goalless in Mbombela against lowly Eswatini. Cameroonian FA failed to make proper arrangements for the Indomitable Lions as it has cost them three points. Cameroon is on top of Group D with 9 points but will lose the position if Libya beats Angola in Tripoli or Cape Verde defeats Mauritius in Praia on Thursday.

Tunisia via Hazim Mastouri’s 4th minute strike defeated Liberia 1-0 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia. The North Africans have opened a five points gap ahead of second placed Namibia.
