Mohammed Salah has gone back to Liverpool for his rehabilitation after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Pharoahs’ 2-2 draw against Ghana.
The 31-year-old superstar has been a shadow of himself in the two games he has played so far as he was very quiet against Mozambique albeit he scored the 95th-minute equaliser from the spot kick to secure a precious one point for the Pharaohs.
Speaking to the press ahead of Egypt’s final group game against Cape Verde, Salah was optimistic about the quality of players in the Egyptian national team in his absence.
Mo Salah urged them to believe in themselves as they are representing 109 million people, not Mohammed Salah’s national team.
“You’re playing for the Egypt national team, not the Salah national team,” the Liverpool winger told teammates.
Mohammed Salah will only return to the 2023 AFCON if Egypt reaches the semi-finals of the tournament as he has been confirmed to miss Egypt’s next two games.
