Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hearts of Oak, Harry Zakkour has proposed that young people should be appointed to run the club, citing that the current board of directors is comprised of “old men” who are not able to effectively manage the team.
In a yet-to-be-aired interview on Prime Take, Harry Zakkour emphasized that the top Ghanaian club needs very active people who will be able to create a bond with the players by visiting training grounds regularly and giving them the attention they require. According to him, this is how players will be pushed to fight to get results for the club.
“You see what is happening now… you see, in my time, we had a good board of directors. When I look at the recent happenings, you need youth to run Hearts of Oak, not old men,” Harry Zakkour said.
The former Hearts of Oak CEO questioned whether the current board members have the time to visit training grounds or camp to look after the players, noting that footballers need attention to produce results.
“Would they have enough time to come and run Accra Hearts of Oak? Would they have time… those board members, who are there now, are they going to the training grounds or to the camp to look after the boys? The boys need attention.
“Footballers are like women, if you don’t give them attention, how do you get results from them?” Harry Zakkour questioned.
His comments come in the wake of Hearts of Oak’s 2-1 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup, which has raised concerns about the team’s performance and prospects for the upcoming 2024/25 football season.
