Members of Ghana’s 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning squad are set to receive GH₵60,000 each, following the maturity of a 15-year investment initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

After their historic victory, the government invested GH₵10,000 on behalf of each player. This investment has now matured, and the players can collect their cheques from the SAS Finance Group office in Accra, starting January 8, 2025. Players are required to present a valid Ghana Card for identification. If unable to collect in person, they may authorize a representative with a notarized Power of Attorney.

The investment package also included annual life and health insurance coverage for each player throughout the 15-year term.

The 2009 Black Satellites made history by becoming the first African team to win the U-20 World Cup, defeating Brazil in a penalty shootout. This achievement remains a significant milestone in Ghanaian football history.

The beneficiaries of this investment include:

  1. Daniel Agyei
  2. Samuel Inkoom
  3. Gladson Awako
  4. Jonathan Mensah
  5. Daniel Addo
  6. David Addy
  7. Abeiku Quansah
  8. Emmanuel Agyemang Badu
  9. Opoku Agyemang
  10. Andre Ayew
  11. Latif Salifu
  12. Ghandy Kassenu
  13. Mohammed Rabiu
  14. Daniel Opare
  15. Philip Boampong
  16. Robert Dabuo
  17. Ransford Osei
  18. John Benson
  19. Bright Addai
  20. Dominic Adiyiah
  21. Joseph Addo

This financial windfall comes at a crucial time for many of the players, some of whom have faced challenges post-retirement. The foresight of the investment underscores the importance of financial planning for athletes.
