Ghana drew 1-1 against Gabon during a Group C match at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday night as the Gabonese left it late to pick a point against the Black Stars.
Jim Allevinah struck two minutes from time to cancel Andre Ayew’s first half effort for Ghana.
Here are five things we at SPORTSWorldGhana.com learned from the game.
1.Heartbreaking to concede a late equalizer
The commotion at full time of the game says it all. Ghana took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to Andre Ayew’s wonderful strike and maintained it till the 88th minute as substitute Jim Allevinah equalized. When everyone in the Ghana team thought it was done and dusted , the Gabonese broke our hearts with a late equalizer. Cruel.
2.Andre Ayew always shows up when he is needed
10 goals at the AFCON finals for Andre Ayew – the most by any Black Stars player of all-time. The 100-cap player deserves more respect. His 18th minute goal underlines his quality. It is however sad Ghana failed to win the game with Ayew’s goal.
3.Black Stars overall play improved
This was a better performance following the Morocco defeat. Ghana possessed the ball with serious quality and class playing from the back. Wollacot hardly played long even when he was under pressure to do so.
4.Daniel Amartey defended stoutly
The Leicester City defender played his heart out against Gabon. He was a colossus at the back.
5.Gabon always believed
To be honest , Gabon played well. The game is not over until the final whistle. The Black Stars were ahead in terms of the ball possession and controlled majority of the match but the Gabonese stayed true to their game plan and they had a last minute equalizer. They increased attacking numbers in the second half and it paid off.
