2019 Africa Cup of Nations winners , Algeria, seek to bounce back from their horrible performance at the 2021 edition of the AFCON in Cameroon where the North Africans failed to win a game.
The team of Riyad Mahrez and friends drew 0-0 against Sierra Leone, lost by 1-0 to Equatorial Guinea before Ivory Coast humiliated them by 3-1.
Algeria are back at the same venue – the Japoma stadium in Douala – where their three group stage games of the 2021 AFCON took place and they know they must be ready mentally.
“We have two important games in the space of a week. Everyone is mobilized to succeed in this challenge. We have no excuses this time. We will go to bring back a good result which will allow us to qualify. It’s that simple. We lost a lot in Douala, on this ground of Japoma, but it is there where we must be reborn.” Djamel Belmadi said.
“It’s like horseback riding. Anyone who falls at the beginning must learn to get up and quickly, otherwise it will traumatize him forever. And we, we want to get back quickly and well on the way to victories” the Algeria technical boss added.
Meanwhile Andre Onana who was a victim of a car accident two days ago has joined his teammates in Douala but it is not clear whether he will start the game.
