“We are champions of Africa” – Senegal star Iliman Ndiaye declares title claim despite CAF decision

Iliman Ndiaye has boldly reaffirmed Senegal’s claim as Africa’s rightful champions following his goal against Chelsea FC, in defiance of CAF’s controversial AFCON ruling.

The Senegal international used the moment after finding the net on Saturday to send a clear message, insisting the Teranga Lions remain the legitimate winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We are champions of Africa,” Ndiaye declared after the match.

His comments come in response to the decision by the Confederation of African Football Appeals Board, which ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final against Morocco national football team following a 17-minute protest walkout. The verdict overturned Senegal’s extra-time victory and awarded Morocco a 3-0 win.

Senegal have since confirmed plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as the controversy continues to divide opinion across the football world.

Adding another twist, Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has reportedly distanced himself from the title, stating that his side did not win it on the pitch.

Ndiaye’s statement reflects the firm stance within the Senegal camp, where players and fans continue to recognize themselves as champions despite the ruling, with the final outcome now set to be determined by CAS.
