Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has revealed Ghana’s tactics to mark him out during their goalless Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi last Friday.
Osimhen was a torn on the flesh of the Black Stars defenders, who in turn tackled him hard at every given opportunity.
The 23-year-old was always closely marked by Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey and Strasbourg’s Alexander Djiku.
Osimhen said aside the defenders calling each other to double mark him, they were also reminded intermittently by the Black Stars technical crew.
“Mostly, Ghana’s assistant coach will tell the defenders to go hard on me every time, especially Daniel Amartey and Alex Djiku. They were trying to carry out their assignment well, but unknown to them, we have other very deadly players.
“We are happy with our performance (in Kumasi) and on Tuesday we hope to finish things off in front of our fans.”
Djiku has however promised to go hard on the Napoli man again when both teams clash on Tuesday. The 27-year-old posted a picture of himself hard tackling the Nigerian striker with the caption, “We do it again on Tuesday.”
A win for the Eagles will see them qualify for their seventh World Cup tournament.
