Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, praises Daniel Amartey for his exemplary professionalism within the Black Stars camp during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting his positive mindset even in the absence of playing time.
Despite being a prominent player for Besiktas in the Turkish top-flight, Amartey hasn’t featured for the Black Stars in the ongoing tournament. Hughton opted for Mohammed Salisu and Alexander Djiku in the central defense during the initial two games.
Prior to the clash against Mozambique, Hughton openly discussed Amartey’s limited playing time with him, underscoring the player’s commendable professionalism. Hughton expressed, “Daniel Amartey is an extremely good professional. I’m not sure there is any player who is happy when he is not playing. I’ve spoken to him regarding his lack of games.”
The upcoming match against Mozambique holds paramount importance for the Black Stars, as securing a victory is imperative for their advancement to the next round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. Similarly, Mozambique sees this as an opportunity to progress with a win in Monday’s match.
Cape Verde has already solidified their position atop the group with consecutive wins against Ghana and Mozambique, ensuring their progression. Egypt currently occupies the second position with two points, while both Ghana and Mozambique have earned a single point each. The competition reaches a crucial stage as teams fiercely compete to secure their spots in the tournament’s next phase.
