Asante Kotoko will look to extend their strong form when they face relegation-threatened Dreams FC at the Tuba AstroTurf in Accra on Saturday afternoon.
Following a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash, the Porcupine Warriors are aiming for their third consecutive league win. However, Dreams FC, desperate to revive their struggling campaign, could present a tough challenge. Currently languishing in the relegation zone, the Still Believe Boys have struggled to make their adopted home ground in Krokrobite a fortress, winning only once there this season.
Kotoko will be without key players Albert Amoah, Saaka Dauda, Frederick Asare, and Emmanuel Antwi, all of whom are on national duty with the Black Galaxies. Amoah, who has scored seven goals this season, including the match-winner against Hearts, will be a significant loss. Coach Prosper Ogum will turn to debutant Kwame Opoku to provide attacking firepower in Amoah’s absence.
Dreams FC, under coach Karim Zito, have endured a difficult season, winning just two of their 13 matches. Their most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Nsoatreman. Historically, they have had a slight edge over Kotoko, winning three of the last six encounters, including a 2-0 victory in April.
Despite their struggles, Dreams FC will be eager to secure points to escape relegation, while Kotoko, with six wins from 13 games, are in a strong position and riding high on the back of victories against Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars. Dreams FC has scored only five goals this season and will need a significant improvement to challenge Kotoko.
While Kotoko are the favourites on paper, Dreams’ determination to avoid relegation could make this an intriguing contest. A win for Kotoko would strengthen their title push, while Dreams are fighting for survival.
