Turkish side Erzurumspor FK have strengthened their squad with the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum on the last day of the transfer window. The blue and white team officially announced.
The 22-year-old central midfielder moves after making two appearances for Cercle in the Jupiler Pro League this season, playing 31 minutes without scoring or providing an assist. He did not start either match.
Agyekum joined Erzurumspor after a spell of just over a year as a Cercle player. He initially moved to the Belgian club from Red Bull Salzburg on loan in July 2024 before returning to the Austrian side at the end of that season.
Cercle then brought him back on a permanent transfer in July 2025, paying Salzburg €800,000. The move to Erzurumspor marks the latest stage of a career that began in Ghana before Agyekum moved to Austria.
Agyekum, 22, who started his career in Ghana at the West African Football Academy, signed with Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg in February 2022. The Ghanaian midfielder has previously played for Liefering, Salzburg, and Belgian club Cercle Brugge.
The right-footed midfielder joined Salzburg from Ghanaian club WAFA SC in February 2022 and spent periods on loan with FC Liefering, another club in the Salzburg system. He was part of the Salzburg squad that won the Austrian championship in the 2022-23 season.
Agyekum’s move to Erzurumspor gives the Turkish club a midfielder with experience in Austrian and Belgian football, while ending his time at Cercle after two competitive campaigns that included both a loan spell and a permanent transfer.
He stands 1.74 metres tall and has played primarily in central midfield throughout his senior career. His current market value is listed at €1.5m.
The transfer also represents a move between two different leagues for the Ghanaian, who leaves the Jupiler Pro League for the Turkish top flight. Erzurumspor are his fourth senior club since leaving WAFA, following Salzburg, FC Liefering and Cercle Brugge.
Agyekum’s senior career has developed through a series of moves connected to Salzburg, including two loan spells at FC Liefering before his first temporary switch to Cercle. His latest transfer takes him away from that pathway and into Turkish football.
