Young Apostles and Vision FC will face off for the first time in the Ghana Premier League at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Both clubs, who earned promotion last season, are eager to make a statement in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter.
Young Apostles come into the match struggling for form, having suffered back-to-back defeats to Basake Holy Stars and Medeama SC. In their last 13 matches, the Apostles have only managed three wins, alongside six losses and four draws, leaving them desperate for a positive result to turn their season around.
On the other hand, Vision FC secured a morale-boosting win against Medeama in their most recent outing, offering some hope despite ongoing defensive struggles. With three wins, five draws, and five losses in their last 13 matches, Vision FC has been more consistent defensively, even if they have room for improvement going forward.
Head coach Nana Agyemang is cautiously optimistic after the victory but acknowledges the need for improvement. “There’s a little bit of blurriness right behind that victory because it’s very difficult to go two goals up only for the opponents to come back. So we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. It’s a good win, we got the three points, yes, but it took us tooth and nail to get that,” he said.
He added, “We need to be on the side where we score goals and not concede. At the moment, we haven’t really done a good job when it comes to that, so we need to score and not get scored against.”
With both teams eager to climb the league standings and solidify their positions, this historic clash is set to be a battle of resilience and tactical execution. The stakes are high as each side looks to gain an upper hand in their maiden top-flight rivalry.
